In Cuba's national strategy to develop young boxing talent into Olympic heros, local boxing gyms are the place where young people's dreams take root. If they are identified as talented, they are moved into athletic schools although they still return to the gym throughout the years to compete in tournaments . Training is monotonous for the young fighters. The competition is relentless. But the prestige and privilege of being a renowed Cuban athlete leads many young people to these gyms and perhaps to a brighter future....Here, Children generally around 8 years old begin training at their local boxing gym, all vying for the attention of instructors and coaches to get ahead in the Cuban boxing system.
